Community stability is related to animal diversity change

چکیده
Understanding the drivers of community stability in times increasing anthropogenic pressure is an urgent issue. Biodiversity known to promote stability, but studies biodiversity–stability relationship rarely consider full complexity biodiversity change. Furthermore, finding generalities that hold across taxonomic groups and spatial temporal scales remains challenging because most investigations have narrow taxonomic, spatial, scopes. We used organismal data collected through National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) at sites contiguous United States evaluate linkages between change for four groups: small mammals, ground beetles, fish, freshwater macroinvertebrates. defined as constancy aggregate species' abundance. quantified (1) dissimilarity functional composition species replacement richness components (2) abundance distributions captured by rank, richness, evenness. found increased with contribution overall all groups, declined This consistent notion fluctuations can help stabilize properties. also was highest when either lower or higher than expected given reshuffling each community's composition. suggests long-term result from functionally similar assemblages high reshuffling. On contrary, uniqueness fluctuating compensates drive stabilization Our study provides initial assessment illustrates utility fine resolution ecosystems biomes understand general mechanisms underlying relationships.

Land use imperils plant and animal community stability through changes in asynchrony rather than diversity.
Human land use may detrimentally affect biodiversity, yet long-term stability of species communities is vital for maintaining ecosystem functioning. Community stability can be achieved by higher species diversity (portfolio effect), higher asynchrony across species (insurance hypothesis) and higher abundance of populations. However, the relative importance of these stabilizing pathways and whet...
متن کاملIs stress management related to workforce productivity?
The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between stressmanagement and workforce productivity of Amol Industrial Park located inMazandaran Province. The total population size in the research was 250 from topmanagers, middle managers and supervisors responsible in the before-mentionedIndustrial Park and the sample size was determined through Morgan samplepopulation volume table ...
متن کاملEvolution of diversity, efficiency, and community stability.
SYNOPSIS. The response in species diversity associated with successional change in vegetation, or in a more general sense, species diversity as a function of time in any system of primary producers, has been the subject of much speculation but little direct study. All evidence available shows that pioneer communities are low in diversity, that in mesic environments the peak in diversity in fore...
متن کاملFertility and marriage behavior in Israel: Diversity, change, and stability
BACKGROUND Based on aggregate statistics, the population of Israel, as compared to all or most other developed societies, has very high levels of fertility and marriage (e.g. TFR of 2.96 in 2009 and only 9.7% never married among women aged 40-44 in 2009). However, studying aggregate demographic measures is problematic, because Israel is an extremely heterogeneous society, with family formation ...
متن کاملIntraspecific functional diversity of common species enhances community stability
Common species are fundamental to the structure and function of their communities and may enhance community stability through intraspecific functional diversity (iFD). We measured among-habitat and within-habitat iFD (i.e., among- and within-plant community types) of two common small mammal species using stable isotopes and functional trait dendrograms, determined whether iFD was related to sho...
